I am drawn to the “thin places” between the performing arts and the sacred.

Suffering Church: How Theatre Can Help Us Learn From Those Who Leave

The number of people identifying as Christian has been on the decline in the United States for decades. Stories give us insight that statistics cannot. The play Suffering Church is part of my doctoral work and is a result of interviews with 55 people as to their reasons for leaving the church. The play exposes the abuse, marginalization, and unwelcome many experienced at the hands of the church.

Actor, Singer

I have been very fortunate to be able to perform at many wonderful theatres in the Wichita area over the years. The Crown Uptown, Mosley Street Melodrama, Cabaret Oldtown, Center for the Arts, Stage One, Roxy’s, and Prairie Pines Playhouse. But my favorite place has been Music Theatre Wichita where I have performed in over 50 shows since 1995. Click below to view a short video of just some of my work.

Think Again

(We have currently pressed pause on this project. Hoping to circle back to it in the future)

The Rev. Dr. Karen Robu joins the Rev. Paul Ellis Jackson to discuss theology and the church in hopes of getting audiences to “think again.”

Where are you on your journey?

Have you left church? Returned to church? I’d love to hear your story. Below is a link to the survey I used when I was collecting stories for my play Suffering Church. Stories shared may appear in future adaptations of the play.
